The official halfway point both in days and miles (actually past halfway today once the day was done) - 140 miles down - left at dawn and arrived at dinner (though at least had 2 hours before sunset) - dawn pictured above with grain elevator/drying - about a mile out of town. Two miles out of town had a flat but fortunately no more today. Wind was strong but stayed SW so over the shoulder most of the time only about 15 miles into the wind. Ventured into TX for about 30 miles today which looked the same as OK of course... Wind farms and oil rigs becoming more prevalent as we head east.
Woodward, OK was established in 1887 on a new rail line (of course) as a cattle shipping point by local ranchers (though local natives had lived in the area for a long time along the Canadian River and by Boiling Springs - artisanal springs that are now a state park). The town rapidly grew and is still the largest town in the nine county area. The town also boasts natural gas and large iodine deposits and the Top Hat Drive Inn was the inspiration for the Sonic drive in chain.

Welcome to Texas! And then, back to OK... |

Ya think? There's a reason for the wind farms - 20mph gusting to 30 today S/SW - gotta hold the handlebars at all times |
Congratulations on being halfway done!
ReplyDeleteWhat an adventure,I hope that you are enjoying it and that your sores are decreasing!
I am enjoying it! (well, at least most of it, which is all you can ask for!) - the butt is tolerating things better each day - I think it's resigned to continued abuse at this point... It's amazing how. much. space. there is out there - and it's beautiful...
