Enid, OK - Day 22

Blustery and cool this morning - upper 40s as we made our way through the Boiling Springs park - 6 deer scattered in front of me riding through the picnic area! Gray skies for only the second day of the trip so much more riding than picture-taking but a relief to have NW winds at our shoulder most of the day pushing us along (unless we were fighting them - about 15 miles of the total). 361 miles in the last three days and total of 1804 miles (excluding the warm-up day) - a little tired but all good - the group is healthy and hammering out the days really well... got some follow up from my friend that crashed out and he is back home and healing well doing PT so that's great news!

We are at the eastern edge of the Great Plains - the dirt is redder and trees more common, and the country has become more rolling. Enid, OK was named after an Alfred, Lord Tennyson character (I'm sure the only town in OK so associated) by a Rock Island line official who disliked the initial name 'Skeleton' (understandable). The town exploded in population during a land rush and with the discovery of oil and its center as a grain trading town it's still the 9th largest city in OK with population about 50,000. It has the third largest grain storage capacity in the world (not verified by me...). Vance AFB is located 4 miles south - we saw a number of fighters overhead today - probably keeping an eye on us. Finally, some (few) of you may know of Enid by Hank Williams song 'Greeted in Enid' - now you know more about it...
Agenda in the window for Nov. 12th community meeting: a) minutes b) new business c) old business d) adjourn

Shortest windmill in Garfield County

Always watching....

Oh that's the reason! If I hit more than one is it still $10,000?
