Nashville! We got an early start on the day due to the threat of storms and increasing winds during the day. Cloudy and sprinkles until close to Nashville when the rain moved in, so good timing as we finished our 53 miles - nice to have a short day and then a rest day. As we move further east the hills get steeper as the valleys get more narrow (the 'hollers') - some of the descents were a little fearsome today including one that ended in a hairpin turn and then a stop sign and some of the uphills were major grinds. Smell of tobacco as we pass some of the farms with curing barns mixed with the smell of rain. Last rest day - hard to believe that in a little more than a week the trip will be over!

Lots of black barns, which is a new color for me... for barns, that is |
Still following you. I was just in Nashville briefly this past Thursday over MEA. Quick stop to show Tristan Vanderbilt, and the we drove down to Atlanta to see Spencer. Are you going to be heading due East towards Knoxville? That’s Katherine’s home. You’ll have to cross the Cumberland plateau. Curious to know your route through the Appalachians...perhaps the Smokies?

ReplyDeleteWe are headed dead east for now - up the plateau tomorrow into Cookeville, then Knoxville, then into NC (Asheville and Greenville) - call it the 'Tour de Villes' or maybe 'Cruella de Villes' based on the topography... :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful area, but I’ve only explored it by automobile...can’t imagine biking there! Good luck! Maybe you’ll get a chance to stop by the Biltmore Estate in Asheville. One of the Vanderbilt family’s “summer homes”. Still one of the, if not the largest private homes in the country.
